Proving once again that he’s a thoroughly good egg, Man vs Food star Adam Richman has fortified his ongoing love affair with all things soccer by donating a considerable wodge of his hard earned money (the fortune that carbohydrate built) to a cash-strapped non-league football club.

As reported in the Non-League Post, Richman has given £800 to Broadley FC, who play in the Lincoln Sunday League, to help the club cover their pitch fees for next season and purchase a new set of training jackets…

As mentioned in the article above, Broadley FC was originally formed in memory of Grimbsy Town fan Richard Broadley, who sadly succumbed to leukaemia in 2011.

Here’s the back story to Richman’s involvement in the matter, as per the Grimbsy Telegraph:

[Broadley FC] manager Matt Newton sent a message to Richman Adam, a self-confessed Mariners supporter, on Facebook and he responded within an hour explaining he had a relative who had undergone treatment for leukaemia.

The US TV presenter has also donated cash to Grimsby Town’s Operation Promotion Budget Boost and is one of the club’s growing number of celebrity fans.

Adam said in a post on the club’s GoFundMe: “For Richard, for my cousin Blake and for all those bravely standing against the odds.

“In the spirit of the beautiful game, in the spirit of the passionate Mariners of Grimsby Town, I am honoured to join your fight.

“Plus, you guys are going to love my logo.”

In another post he said: “I think what you are doing is a really beautiful thing!”

Matt, who works for M&S, in Grimsby, said: “I was overwhelmed when he responded – and he did it within an hour of me posting the message to him.

“It is not everyday you get a celebrity who is so well-known responding so quickly.

“He initially agreed to pay our pitch fees for the season, which was £400 and then asked how else could he help, so we got another £400 for jackets for training. It has all helped us keep going for another season and help us make more people aware of leukaemia and lymphoma.”

His club, which plays at Yarborough Road, in Lincoln, ended fifth in the city’s Sunday league last season.

Matt said: “Adam wants us to send him a kit and jacket so he can feel part of the squad.”

Cracking stuff.
