As confirmed by the BBC’s annual Price of Football survey, National League side Kidderminster Harriers currently boast – if that’s the right word – the most expensive match-day pie in British football.

Kidderminster are one of only four clubs in Britain to charge over £4 for a pie, along with Brighton (£4.10), Crystal Palace and Man City (both £4).

However, at £4.50, Harriers’ offering is the most expensive by a clear distance.

That said, their cottage pie has won several awards over the years, and the despite the cost, the club are proud of the fare they lay on at Aggborough…

The Harriers have routinely been forced to defend the lofty price of their match-day food, having regularly been criticised in the past.

Speaking in 2012, back when the cottage pie cost a mere £4, Harrier’s long-serving chief caterer Brian Murdoch (that’s him in the photo up there) told the Daily Mail:

I am not embarrassed about charging £4. I have not raised the price for three years.

For me, it is all about quality and I will not compromise on that. I have opened up too many football pies to find just hot air and gravy.

I use fresh ingredients which I prepare freshly by hand. And the pies are big. We often get a couple asking for a pie and two spoons.

Barcelona have Messi, Real Madrid have Ronaldo and Kidderminster have our pies.

Can’t say fairer than that, can you?
