In what’s quickly become a tradition, Hartlepool fans have once again adopted a fancy dress theme to encompass their final away fixture of the season.

In recent years, we’ve seen the travelling Pools hordes filtering into stadiums the length and breath of England dressed as Stormtroopers, Oompa-Loompas, Smurfs, penguins, Thunderbirds, Rastafarians, mimes and nuns.

This year, the theme selected is ‘clowns’ – leading directly to some harrowing scenes at Hartlepool train station first thing on Saturday morning…

The Monkey Hangers are away at Tranmere today and desperately need to come away with at least a point to help stave off a possible second successive relegation having dropped out of the Football League altogether last year.

Fingers crossed they pull off a result, as the only thing worse than a train full of clowns is a train full of weeping, partially-inebriated clowns.

Not a Frenchman to be seen…the Hartlepool reputation demands discretion. Bonzo was a messenger of peace, not a spy. The bells rang to mourn his passing.
