Who Is The Hardest-Working Player In The Premier League?

By Ollie Irish

A simple question to mull over on this grey Wednesday lunchtime: who is the hardest-working player in the Prem? I don’t mean in training or when it comes to chatting up prospective WAGs, but purely in competitive matches.

So who gets your vote for sheer, lung-busting graft?

A few perspiration-soaked names to get you going: Dirk Kuyt, Stephen Hunt, Darren Fletcher, John Terry, Carlos Tevez, James Milner, Nigel de Jong, Wayne Rooney, Scott Parker (pictured)… who else?

Let’s have it…

It seems the mid-lower table teams are composed of players who A) Have talent, but no work rate or B) little talent, but phenomenal work rate.
That said, all of your nominees are spot-on, I just think that there are too many players who all run their arses off week-in and week-out to have one single Hardest Working Player for the league.

  30. joshua says:

Definitely JS Park. He is so underestimated but runs tirelessly to create space for Rooney.

  31. Valsore says:

    Berbatov ofcourse :)

  32. lynus says:

Ashley cole..A rocket up and down the left flank.

  33. goona says:

the worst part of this for me is that there isnt an arsenal name even near anyones list. and rightfully so. my vote is for wayne rooney.

  34. dan says:

can only speak for my club…but a. cole & ballack put in a hell of a shift for us. not a popular opinion amongst sports “commentators” but week in, week out they cover more ground than anyone on the pitch. drogba also deserves a mention for the amount of work he gets through…ivanovic too.

i remember scotty parker working his a*** us every time he played too. but i only see him twice a season or on highlights nowadays. you can’t really judge unless you’re watching 90 mins every week.

  35. Muz says:

    Tim Cahill – he’s a running machine

  36. gooners4life says:

    berbatov

  37. Brana says:

  40. Ian says:

Rooney, did anyone see the sprint he made the length of the pitch to score his goal against Arsenal? Impressive!

  41. Grant says:

    Tevez

  42. Liv says:

    Berbatov?…lol..ok seriously,its Javier Mascherano!

  43. glorious says:

    Kuyt..comfortably

  44. Greg says:

As a Liverpool fan I’m obviously going to say Dirk Kuyt.

I recall one game last season where we were winning comfortably (ah, those were the days…) and defending a corner in injury time. We cleared the corner (ah, those were the days…) and the ball went to an opposing player near the half way line. Dirk sprinted to close down the player, who then passed the ball back to his keeper. Dirk then continued sprinting to close the keeper down, and the under-pressure keeper sliced the ball out for a throw in to us about 20 yards from the other team’s goal.

There were about 3 seconds to go.

  45. Bobwoz says:

    ROONEY ALL DAY EVERY DAY.

  46. Joe says:

@Greg: Good times. I also remember ‘Pool being 4-0 up v Real somewhere deep in the second half, when the ball hobbled aimlessly towards the Real corner flag after a long clearance. What does Kuyt do? He chases it down. Should be Holland captain.

  47. TheIt. says:

I would have to say Kuyt.
Although Rooney knows exactly how to time his energy output and is simply rewarded well by this in terms of goals and so, Kuyt is always running around (not making the best progress always) but clearly listens to Hillary Duff’s ‘Never Stop’.

  48. MUFC-4-LYF says:

Every ManU supporter will know Darren Fletchers work rate is outstanding BUT it has to be ROONEY without a doubt.

  49. kritter says:

    Palacios. And I’m Arsenal.

  50. united 4eva says:

    berbatov by a mile

  53. Bluebybirth says:

  54. Mike says:

No doubt. It has to be Kuyt. Every single game he doesn’t stop running from end to end of the pitch, plus he made it to the World Cup final and was still running!

Alex Ferguson himself admitted that Kuyt is “Like a man with 2 hearts”

  55. phenom says:

if its not tevez its Gerrard, tevez is just outright stamina built and gerrard has been rinning box to box since his debut

  56. Patrick says:
