Photos: West Bromwich Albion 0-2 Cardiff City, Championship

This was the first league win for the Bluebirds at West Brom since 1957. Goals by Chris Burke (18) and Peter Whittingham (85 pen) did the damage. The other talking point was the red card shown to West Brom goalkeeper/skipper Scott Carson in the second half, for a head butt on Michael Chopra. Indeed, it was Carson’s foul on Chopra that led directly to the late penalty being awarded by ref Paul Taylor. Until then, West Brom had thrown the kitchen sink at Cardiff in the search for an equaliser.

The result sees Cardiff go third in the Championship table, five points behind the Baggies – who still look a good bet for automatic promotion – and nine behind runaway leaders Newcastle United.
