Many Burnley fans seem to be wholly unimpressed with Laws’ appointment, but consider that he did a very good job at Sheffield Wednesday, on very limited resources; he deserves his chance to take the hot seat at a Prem club.

If Burnley wanted a bigger name to replace Owen Coyle, they would have had to pay bigger money, and with no guarantee that someone like Alan Curbishley, Paul Jewell or David O’Leary (all of whom would want a bigger salary than Laws asked for) would keep them up.

Still, following the overachieving Coyle is a very tough gig and it won’t take more than a couple of defeats for the dark clouds of relegation to form over Laws’ head (incidentally, he has way too much hair for someone who is almost 50 – Ollie wrote with no little jealousy).

Will Laws break Burnley or keep them up? Vote below:

Still shocked by this appointment. He did a great job for us given the lack of funds to work with, but at the same time, I don’t think he’s anywhere near good enough to manage a team in the Premiership. This season especially his tactics were woeful, his team selections and substitutions at times bewildering, and I can’t count how many times we dominated in the first half only to collapse after his half time team talk. Wednesday’s players certainly shoulder the majority of the blame for the situation we’re in at the moment, but Big Bri certainly had a role to play. That the players seemed completely unmotivated by him speaks volumes.

Still though, a bloody nice fella and wish him all the best. Thanks for everything, and good luck in the Prem!

Laws’ appointment is surely an indication of Burnley’s lack of funds rather than lack of ambition.
