A fortnight after shafting Brian McDermott, Reading have appointed former Southampton middle manager Nigel Adkins as their new manager on a three-year deal.

A statement of Reading’s official site reads:

“Reading Football Club are delighted to announce the appointment of Nigel Adkins as first team manager on a contract until the summer of 2016.

“Adkins is the right man for Reading; he comes to Madejski Stadium with great experience, a winning mentality, the ability to develop and improve players – especially youngsters – four promotions on his CV and excellent knowledge of the Barclays Premier League.”

Adkins will train with his new side for the first time tomorrow morning. He now has eight games to haul The Royals from second bottom, up out of the relegation quagmire and above the dotted line of doom. Perhaps a few choice poetry recitals might instill the necessary oomph required?

Good luck with that Chuck.

Adkins: By Royal appointment

Anyone reckon the appointment of Adkins is going to keep Reading up? No? Anyone?
