Republic of Ireland 0-2 Brazil (Andrews 44og, Robinho 76)
On my BigSoccer blog yesterday, I tipped Brazil to win the 2010 World Cup this summer:
“Brazil’s strength in depth throughout their squad is unmatched – Dani Alves is not a first-choice, for example – and now that they have a top-class keeper (Julio Cesar) and a pragmatic manager (Dunga), I think they have all the tools to win another world title, beating either Holland or France in the final.”
Having seen Brazil saunter past Ireland at the Emirates last night, without ever moving into top gear, I am sticking by that prediction. Yes, Ireland contained them quite well in the first half, but the second half was a more realistic gauge of the South Americans’ class, and even then I think they were quite some way short of showing us the real Brazil.
