And, yay, the Gods/FIFA have (finally) spoken: Cristiano Ronaldo is the recipient of the 2014 Ballon d’Or – his third such trinket…

According to the official figures, Ronaldo won with a massive 37.66% of all votes, that’s compared to Messi’s 15.76% and Neuer’s 15.72%.

Ronaldo also made this noise on winning, which was a little bit unsettling at best…

O…kay.

You feel this may be the closest Neuer will ever come to winning a much-deserved Ballon, but as we’ve said before: it’s a lot more difficult to put the ball into the back of the net than it is to keep it out.

If you were wondering who England manager Roy Hodgson voted as his best player in the world last year then wonder no more…it was Javier Mascherano.

Elsewhere, Jogi Loew won Coach of the Year (unsurprising given the World Cup and everything) with James Rodriguez winning the Puskas Award for goal of the year – pipping Robin van Persie and people’s champion Stephanie Roche with his scorcher against Uruguay over the summer…

As for the Women’s World Player of the Year award, that honour went to Nadine Kessler of Wolfsburg and Germany.

All coaches and players who did not vote for Christiano Ronaldo have issues or completely dont have eyesight on football. You cant compare a blistering Ronaldo year with a 7-matches-to-final World Cup.Even FIFA knows it.

Stephanie should have won Goal Of The Year™.

The Rodriguez volley was out of this world, but Stephanie’s was even better.

As for Ronaldo’s noise, well that’s odd indeed.

WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO SAY, RONALDO?

“tries thinking of something in Portuguese, nah that won’t work on a global audience… tries thinking of something in Spanish, nah, I wanna be heard globally… tries thinking of something in English… FUCK IT…

    SUUUUUGGHHHHHH”

  8. drags says:

The RVP goal should have won the Puskas. The others were all fantastic but i think the Puskas award should go to something you’ve almost never seen before, and i think while James’ goal was great, nobody can say they’ve seen a goal like RVP’s before..

  9. Cosa says:

James Rodriguez: not even the best volley at that competition, never mind overall.

@Drags: based on what you’re saying, a ridiculous own goal could win.

  10. Anonymous says:

He was completely horrible at the world cup and scored more penalties than any other player last year, and that makes him the best in the world? Really?

Isn’t that weird sound he makes a Madrid thing? I saw a video on Reddit where you can hear some other players making the same noise after scoring.
