Kick-off of Oldham Athletics’s pre-season friendly against Blackburn Rovers over the weekend had to be delayed by several minutes after a throng of unwanted guests stormed the pitch and set up camp in one of the goalmouths.
While inspecting the pitch before the game, the referee noticed that one of the goals had been besieged by a gigantic swarm of bees.
Seizing their opportunity, the official Oldham Twitter account broke out the bee puns…
You cannot BEE serious? Hope everyone is swarming down to http://t.co/nmI9LHfYwg Park today… pic.twitter.com/YjsZDUINOW

Thankfully, a local beekeeper was able to come down to Boundary Park and clear the swarm into a cardboard box before taking it off to wherever it is you safely dispose of bee swarms…
It's not every day @OfficialOAFC have to call in the beekeepers before the game can kick off #oafcvbrfc @OneRovers pic.twitter.com/jbFSNQ3WT5

With the goal cleared the match was able to commence, though there was still time for one last pun…
The Bee team has just left the pitch. #GameOn

For the record, Oldham went on to lose 2-0.
