Charlton captain Nicky Bailey’s missed penalty cost his side a trip to Wembley and the chance of promotion to the Championship, as Swindon reached the League One play-off final with a 5-4 win on penalties at The Valley.

Bailey left the field in tears after blasting his side’s second penalty high over the crossbar, while Stephen Darby converted Swindon’s final spot-kick to win what was a cracking tie.

Swindon had looked like certain losers midway through the second half when, at 2-0 down on the night and 3-2 on aggregate, defender Gordon Greer was sent off. But the visitors scored through Danny Ward and then held their nerve brilliantly to set up a final meeting with Millwall or Huddersfield at Wembley.
