Less than 24 hours after Michael Dawson received the phone call summoning him to South Africa to replace crocked Rio Ferdinand, Dawson was taking part in England’s second training session at their Royal Bafokeng camp. There is no time to waste.

Fabio Capello must be very relieved to see Dawson, especially as Matthew Upson (high temperature) and Ledley King (fragile knees) sat out this morning’s session. Gareth Barry did train and looks on course to start England’s second match against Algeria.
