A fan of Brazil holds up a scarf in the stands.

Brazil always beat Chile so it was no shock that they won this match with something left in the tank. The blend of power, pace and guile in Dunga’s squad really is a frightening prospect for opponents (Lucio and Maicon, both monsters, could play in a back two on their own), and I can only see Spain or Argentina beating them now. A Brazil v Argentina final is what the world wants – most of the world anyway. I know I do. Maradona vs Dunga on the touchline. Awesome.

The Dutch will give Brazil something to think about in the quarter-finals, more than Chile did anyway, but I just can’t see an upset there. Just as Inter powered to Champions League victory, so Brazil’s Internazionale stars (Maicon, Lucio and Julio Cesar) will be the backbone of a Selecao triumph.

  1. Deckard says:

But Inter’s ticking heartbeat was Sneijder, and he plays for Holland. I’m not underestimating Brazil at all, they’re power combined with brilliant technique. But Holland’s defensive shield for example, Van Bommel and De Jong, have been monstrous. I just can’t see the likes of Robinho skipping past them all that easily. The speculation can go on forever what I do know is Holland – Brazil has always been a classic and it’s certainly got the potential to be that again.
