Very cool pictures. The mountain in the background of the Stanley Matthews photo could be the back side of Table Mountain, or one of the other peaks (known in Capetown as the 12 Apostles) on the road south towards the Cape of Good Hope.
The location of the photo featuring Sir Stanley Mathews, is the suburb of Observatory in Cape Town. The ground, known as Hartleyvale, became the home of Cape Town City F.C., in the 1960s which, alas, is now in a sorry state of disrepair. The mountain in the background is Devil’s Peak:
