Brrr. On a cold night in Pompey, both teams did their best to warm up the crowd, but this was a match lacking in real quality (Rafa: kwality). West Ham might have won easily, but Asmir Begovic was in cracking form in the home goal, denying Frank Nouble, Jack Collison and Alessandro Diamanti with excellent saves. The Hammers eventually went 1-0 up, early in the second half, when Younes Kaboul’s headed clearance looped in off the chest of Matthew Upson. Jammy is the word. Then Portsmouth sub Danny Webber’s tidy finish, through the legs of Rob Green, in the 76th minute earned his side a point they deserved – Pompey were the better side for much of the second period.

Overall though, it’s the classic draw which neither team wanted, especially Pompey, who remain rooted to the foot of the table.
