Kalvin Phillips Could be Hot Property in Final Days of Transfer Window

This year’s transfer window has been crazier than ever. In part, it is down to the £200 million Neymar deal, which has dominated the front pages as well as the back, but there have been plenty of other big stories in the Premiership and across Europe.

With the season now getting underway, you could be forgiven for thinking that news of players moving from one team to another for telephone number deals is all finished for a while, but there are still a few days left, and expect them to be frantic ones.

One of the names that has suddenly appeared from almost nowhere on the bookmaker’s radars is that of Kalvin Phillips. The interesting thing about this point in the proceedings is that with games underway, clubs have form as well as talent to go on, and the Leeds midfielder has it in spades.

Phillips is still only 21, but having made 40 first team appearances last season, he has started the new campaign on the right foot with an impressive display in Leeds’ otherwise unremarkable 0-0 draw against Fulham on 15 August. He also contributed two goals versus Bolton on the opening weekend of the new season.

The big time beckons?

Less than a month ago, Phillips signed a contract extension to remain at Elland Road till 2021, but history shows that things can move very quickly when a promising young talent catches the eye of the major clubs. A glance at the bookmakers via Best Betting Sites suggests that there is still as much attention on who is going where as there is on the results themselves, and we can expect some last minute transfers to be on the cards.

So will Phillips be among them? The view from the bookies is that he is most likely to stay where he is, at least for now. The youngster still has plenty of learning to do, and the probability is that the Premiership teams will be comfortable to hang back and watch him do so at Leeds. But there can be little doubt that a player of such undeniable talent and with such a passion for the game-changing play will have a role to play at the highest level.

Other transfer news

Elsewhere, the transfer gossip has largely centred around Tottenham’s imminent signing of Ajax centre back Davinson Sanchez, and exactly where Brazil international Philippe Coutinho will be playing his football this year.

As far as the Spurs signing is concerned, it appears that the deal is all but done, and the 21 year old Colombian will be joining for a transfer fee of £28 million, with an additional £14 million to follow in add-ons.

The prospects regarding Coutinho are less obvious. The bookmakers are split between him remaining at Liverpool or transferring to Barcelona. Barca have made it clear that they are keen to secure his services, despite the absence of an exit clause in his contract with The Reds. Expect to see them mount a hefty offer in the coming days.
