“Tommy used to work on the docks…”

Cristiano Ronaldo’s omnipresent, omnipotent super-agent Jorge Mendes has defended his main meal/yacht ticket after the Real Madrid star was filmed frolicking (possibly even cavorting) in a bar just hours after Real’s embarrassing 4-0 trouncing at the hands of city rivals Atletico in the Madrid derby.

Ronaldo was out celebrating his recent 30th birthday with friends at the ‘In Zalacain’ restaurant in Madrid on Saturday evening, taking to the stage with record producer Kevin Roldan to croon along to Roldan’s song “Si Tu No Te Enamoras”.

This video, of course, angered a certain section of Real fans, who obviously expected Ronaldo (along with fellow party goers James Rodriguez, Marcelo and Luka Modric) to remain in a deep catatonic state of despair for days after such a humiliating result.

However, Mendes has told Spanish radio station Cadena Ser that his client was indeed mortified by the Atleti spanking and that it took hours of cajoling for Ronaldo to snap out of his funk in time for his pre-planned birthday bash.

“He was very angry. Any player that loses a game and more so, Ronaldo – who is a great professional, who continues to be the best professional in the world – would be angry.

“The fact is that his birthday party had been organised more than a month ago and he had family coming from abroad.

“He didn’t want to cancel out of respect for the people that came.

“What is inadmissible is that somebody takes advantage of a private affair to release a video.

“Ronaldo was devastated after the defeat and people spent two hours trying to cheer him up.”

So there you go.

Seriously, can the guy not forget about work for a few hours while he celebrates hitting the big 3-0?
