This morning Real Madrid star Kaka visited a knee specialist in Belgium – home of fine beer, fries, mussels and knee specialists – and was told he’ll need surgery on his left knee. As a result, he is set to miss the first two months of the season.

Based on his form last season, this is no great loss to Madrid. And Jose Mourinho received the news without alarm:

“If we lose him for some time it’s no drama – we have other players and that’s it. But he’s one of the best players in the world.”

Except, Mourinho knows that Kaka is no longer one of the best players in the world. A couple of years ago, yes, no question. Not now though. If Ronaldo missed the first act of the new campaign, however – that would be a MASSIVE drama. Kaka, not so much. As Jose says, Real will cope.

The silver lining to Kaka’s knee injury is the news that his groin injury is on the mend. If it ain’t one thing etc.
