If you haven’t already heard – and you may want to strategically position yourselves over your antique Victorian fainting couches for this – ex-Blackburn, Tottenham, Birmingham, West Ham and FC Rostrov midfielder David Bentley has retired from football today at the grand old age of 29 having failed to start more than 11 games in any season since he turned 23.

We thought we’d give his career the retrospective treatment it so thoroughly deserves.

Firstly, there was this of course…

Then there was that quite nice cross for Roque Santa Cruz – possibly against Middlesbrough in 2007?

Oh, and there was that time he dumped several gallons of ice water over Harry Redknapp and then danced around in his grundies like a simpleton…

Aaaaand, well, that’s about it.

So long Bents.
