Classic Banners: ‘Welcome To Civilisation’, Leeds United v Galatasaray, 2000
By Ollie Irish
April 2000: Leeds United fans respond to Galatasaray’s infamous ‘Welcome To Hell’ banner. As seen during the Uefa Cup semi-final second leg at Elland Road.
The semi final was, of course, overshadowed by the death of two Leeds fans, Christopher Loftus and Kevin Speight, who were stabbed to death in Turkey before the first leg. The atmosphere at Elland Road was not pleasant, understandably – although I recall that Leeds fans were, overall, rather restrained and dignified.

no one deserves to die for a football match ! that’s rite. however , some people deserves to die because of their irreverence. football and hooliganism is not a child play at Mediterranean countries. mamma li turchi ;)
it seams that english fans had problems with the turkish, germans, dutch, italians, french, etc. Maybe the problem is themselfs and they arrogant and colonial-type attitude towards foreigners.
