According to reports in The Times, Celtic are preparing an offer to bring Nottingham Forest manager Billy Davies back north of the border and install him as manager in time for next season, with current caretaker boss Neil Lennon dropping back down to assistant manager.

The 45-year-old former Rangers man has a chance to guide Nottingham Forest back to the Premier League for the first time since 1999 if he manages to steer them through the Championship play-offs successfully next month, but the wee Scotsman is known to be becoming increasingly frustrated with the City Ground board’s convoluted method of player acquisition and his advisor – Jim Price – has not ruled out a summer exit for Davies;

“I think the idea that Billy is an out-and-out Rangers man is a bit of a myth, I certainly don’t see why Billy couldn’t be a successful manager at Celtic or Rangers or wherever.”

This is potentially bad news for Forest fans. Davies has his detractors but you can’t ignore the fact that he has somehow got a squad of mainly average players competing for a highly-impressive league position, not to mention a possible promotion.

If we – yep, for all my sins I’m a Trees fan – do manage to get promoted then I think Davies will stay on, as managing in the top-flight will be enough to suitably massage his ego – after all ‘The Billy Davies Show’ (the man refers to himself in the third-person for christ’s sake) will be back in the big time.

But should Forest flounder in the play-offs like we’ve done so many times in the recent past, then I can seriously see our incumbent walking out to keep ‘the show’ on the road at a big club like Celtic.

But we Forest fans shouldn’t worry too much about losing our current manager – after all, Gary Megson is still available.

That wouldnt be the worse thing to happen to Forest. I think we can get somebody better in.

    Fellow Tricky here……..

Whilst i appreciate the wonderful job Davies has done for us this season , i for one won’t be losing sleep whether he goes or stays. Too be honest with you , i’m getting pretty tired of hearing winge and moan over and over again , about the same things.

Yes, we’re all dissapointed in not adding to the squad in January but lets face it, he’s so called ”list” just wasn’t achievable…. NO WAY were Spurs going to let Bale go , NO WAY WAS Shorey going to continue playing in the Championship when the offer of Premiership football with Fulham became available & NO WAY were Swansea going to sell to a potential Play Off rival.

If he had an ounce of Loyalty in him , he would come right out and say I’m staying put with Forest, all he’s done is confirm he’s concentrating on the job for this season and will review things in the summer. He is an excellent manager but a very selfish , and single minded one at that. By doing what he’s doing could seriously jeopardise Forest’s promotion hopes.

So instead of trying to put the chairman & the board under pressure trying to see if you can get this or that or seeing what Celtic have got to say… try sorting out the away form, which for the 2nd half of the season has been relegation material!!

and yes, i am a season ticket holder, and yes i am entitled to my point of view which will no doubt come in for some critism

“I think the Idea that billy is an out and out rangers man is a bit of a myth”??
I think it was davies who said he would “crawl over broken glass” to manage ranjurs!!
Not only BS, but yesterdays BS at that!
Celtic have already stated that they have no interest in him.
There is NO WAY the Celtic support would accept him, Basically the club as a whole wouldn’t touch him with a barge pole!
The only “myth” in this article is that anyone at Celtic has any interest in this wee guy at all!!

@FT&T: I totally agree with your point. The thing that worries me most about potentially going up is the fact that no member of our current squad – save Rob Earnshaw – has any experience of playing in the Premier League and that kind of naivety will cost us dear as it has on occasions this season.

I’ve got a bad feeling that if we get promoted, our current side will be torn to shreds – or out-muscled – on an almost weekly basis.

I’m kind of hoping that we don’t get through the play-offs (although the money would be nice) as another year spent proving our credentials in the Championship would be more beneficial in my opinion.

davies as Celtic manager is a joke, hes got no experiance at the level requiered and is not even on Celtics radar, theres more chance of Alex Ferguson being Celtics next manager with Jose Morunio as is 2nd than that we twat getting the job

  6. Forest through and through says:

he’ll only walk out on Celtic when the bigger job of Kilmarnock becomes available anyway!

  7. Mathers says:

Experience in Scotland. League one would provide better experience than managing in Scotland. Celtic are a joke. I comply agree with FT&T; Talented manager but utterly selfish.

Although if we do go up, which i dont think we will, i think we could do a wolves, play decent football and be hardish to beat. We might even scrape through one season with a couple of decent buys.

  8. harry says:

the likelihood of billy davies managing celtic is on a par with him taking charge of the brazilian national squad for the coming world cup..have no fears foresters, your stuck with him unless rangers give him the call..

Anybody remembering Derby County in 07/08? The same would happen to Nottingham Forest. Promotion would come way too early for them, they should rather stay 1-2 years in the Championship before being ready to survive in the Premier League.
