Sassuolo forward Antonio Floro Flores has insisted that he is “not a hero” despite being hailed as saint by some in Italy over the past few days after the former Udinese man agreed to adopt a baby which was found abandoned on a train.

It is believed that the baby, since named Francesco, was only three or four days old when he was found hidden in a bag underneath a seat on a train going from Naples to Avellino.

Flores, who already has three children of his own, heard of the poor little nipper’s plight and immediately set the wheels in motion to adopt him after official efforts to find his birth parents failed.

“After seeing the profile of little Francesco, we followed what our hearts told us,” wrote Floro Flores on Twitter. “Before being a player, I am a father. I’m certainly not a hero! We are going through the regular procedures.”
