After being banished down into the fourth tier at the end of the 2014/15 season, Parma have completed a miraculous rise back up into Serie A in just about the most efficient manor possible.
With debts of €22million, the Gialloblu were declared bankrupt (all the hows and whys are here) and bumped down to Italy’s highest amateur division as a consequence.
However, the club wasted little time getting their act together and three consecutive promotions later, they will be playing top flight football once again next season.
Indeed, Parma mustered a 0-2 away win over Spezia in their final match of the season on Friday night to secure the runners-up spot in Serie B, pipping Frosinone into third thanks to a fractionally superior (+2) goal difference.
And to think, Gianluigi Buffon, who started his professional career at Parma, will be a free agent come the start of 2018/19…
Could it be? Could it possibly be?
