Paolo Maldini jeered on farewell by AC Milan fans

Paolo Maldini is the greatest defender of his generation, perhaps of all time. His career at Milan (he was a loyal, one-club man) spanned 24 years; Ryan Giggs would have to play at Man Utd for another six seasons to match that.
Maldini’s magnificent playing career ended on Sunday, in a 3-2 defeat at home to Roma (it was his 900th appearance!). Shame about the result, but Maldini was roundly cheered by both sets of fans after the final whistle. Except, that is, for some of Milan’s more hardcore fans (aka “Ultras”), who used the occasion to champion another great Milan defender, Franco Baresi, while at the same time jeering Italy’s most capped player.

    Seriously, what a pack of cunts. They will never, ever have another player who serves the club as well and as brilliantly as Maldini and they treat him like that.

    @ Arseblogger: Totally. Italian Ultras are the most self-righteous, vain bunch of dickfaces in the footballing world. They think they’re more important than the club they claim to support – not even the bin-dippers of Liverpool think that.

    the irony of course is that most of these idiots weren’t even born when maldini stepped on the pitch for the club they claim to support.

    I respect Maldini when he was first stepped on the pitch of worldcup, where were those Ultras? they know nothing.
