After barely surviving the drop last year and playing like clueless loons for the majority, Borussia Monchengladbach are currently riding high in second spot in the Bundesliga table (three points behind leaders Dortmund), and with good reason. For you see, coach Lucian Favre has got the playing some simply sublime tiki-taka style passing football – the kind of football that has seen them christened ‘Borussia Barcengladbach’ by the entire German sporting press me.

Not prepared to just sit there and take my word for it? Suit yourself. Here’s a bit of video evidence…

All this despite having a despicable diving twallop up front!

  3. Papi says:

Love the small clip with football Man-of-Glass Arjen Robben.

  4. Astle68 says:

I wonder many of the above clips resulted in a goal?

    wow….

I hope they keep their players and manager and go take the CL next season..

I was wearing a Monchengladbach scarf today. I feel relevant.

The footage in this video is all slightly sped up to make it look faster and slicker. I’m not saying that it’s not lovely one touch football, but I think if you slowed it down and then compared it against other teams, you wouldn’t see something all that special. Great job that the coaches ans staff are doing though, German football is fast becoming the blueprint that the FA should be looking at for the next decade.

@harsh — well, you need to look a little close – look at how arango and herrman play – not to forget nordveit – it’s not only a one-trick pony show at gladbach.

Even Hanke gets used in such a way that brings the best out in him.

They play slick and very beautiful footie currently there, reminding you of the golden days of the seventies with Netzer.

Who is the most unpopular Borussia Monchengladbach fan?
The guy that goes “Give me a ‘B’!”

  10. Patrick says:

Quick, someone get this to Wenger! His teams used to play like this…. once.

  11. Harsh says:

@werderbremen_rulez: i’m not saying it’s specifically a “one-trick pony show.” All i’m saying is that Reus is the pivot in most of their attacking forays and losing him will be a big dent to their tiki-taka style of play. Of course, i’m a Dortmund fan so i don’t mind :p

  12. Eckpfosten says:

For me the most astounding thing is, that Favre made the loser-team of the last season an amazingly successfull team playing with so much energy and discipline. But one should also mention top-defender Dante (sadly, going to Minich next season) and U21-Keeper Ter Stegen. One of Gladbachs secrets is the low number of goals their opponents could score (only 13 in 22 matches).

2:50 – arjen robben is a diving cheating cunt. almost ruined the entire video for me
