We’ve all been there: buggering up a pass or a shot so badly that the only acceptable reaction is to turn away and grimace in pure disgust at your own ineptitude – it’s exactly what Phil Jones should’ve done after spluffing a woefully botched “header” in off Vinnie Kompany’s back against Man City on Monday night, rather than celebrating like he’d just pinged in a 30-yarder off the underside of the crossbar.
Last night’s Copa do Brasil action kicked up a great example, with CRAC striker Danilo skying a shot into the ether against Nautico, turning his back in shame and skulking off back down the pitch with his head down.
Only, it turned out that Danilo’s hopelessly ballooned effort wasn’t actually quite as crap as he first thought…
Either a perfect finish, or the flukiest fluke since Archduke McFluke fluked his way into the world premiere of ‘Fluke‘ (Matthew Modine’s finest work).
