Spain Soccer Copa del Rey

Having returned from his winter injury lay-off to score a brace after coming on for the final half-an-hour of the first leg last week, Lionel Messi repeated the feat in the second leg of Barcelona’s Copa Del Rey round of 16 tie against Getafe – again scoring twice as Barca moseyed their way to a 6-0 aggregate victory.

Messi’s first goal of the evening was perfectly serviceable in its own right, but his second was a work of pure artisnal skill – effortlessly gliding through the heart of the Getafe defence with a quick burst of speed, drawing the ‘keeper out and rolling the ball in from a tight-ish angle.

All pretty run-of-the-mill stuff for Messi, but a cracking goal non-the-less and, of course, it was greeted by orgasmic hoots of pleasure from commentator Ray Hudson, who had obviously been suffering chronic withdrawal symptoms after having to go for a month without frothing himself over the man who is so good that, in his words, he “could make an onion cry”.

Poor man’s Sid Waddell, without the education. Makes me cringe everytime I hear him shouting over his American colleague.

  2. Tom the bees fan says:

that was some of the worst defending ive seen.

  3. Steve-o says:

His various “oooh!” “ahhh!” “arghh!” during the run of play are so annoying too. They need a cough button for him.

Has his moments but Joe’s right, he makes me cringe too.
