Not in the same league (quite literally), but there were very definite shades of Zinedine Zidane’s famous standing volley against Bayer Leverkusen at Hampden Park in 2002 in the technique Garath McCleary used to smash home this superb volley against Burnley this afternoon…

McCleary in a nutshell: one moment of sheer brilliance followed by three months of nothing but aimless step-overs and under-hit crosses – lather, rinse, repeat.

Meanwhile, it never hurts to give this scorcher another look…

    Haha you jealous anorak he has been quality throughout, goals and plenty of assists! He’s a quality player and it was actually better than zidanes if you ignore the occasion and the names. Further out and hit with more venom.
