It’s always a bloody shame when a nice goal falls by the wayside but unfortunately Nani’s classy back-heel finish to a super slick Portuguese attacking manouevre against the Republic of Ireland last night meant nada due to a pesky offside call…

Liquid football!

For the record, Portugal pummelled the ROI in a resounding 5-1 victory; Nani providing a couple of assists on the night Cristiano Ronaldo made his comeback from injury, lasting a fairly healthy 65 minutes before being rested.

Goals from Hugo Almeida (2), Vieirinha, Fabio Coentrao and an own-goal from Richard Keogh completed the rout, with James McLean sticking away the Republic’s scant consolation.

“Nani scoring once” Nani didn’t actually score (you mention the five scorers in the last paragraph, with him that’d make 6 goals)

Oops. Well spotted Nuno. That was a sneaky little fragment left over from the botched sentence I attempted beforehand.

Some silky smooth moves there and quick! Hope to see much more of that over the next month from all teams. All I can say is go the Aussies even though we don’t have a great chance in our group-you can always dream!!
