Back in June of 2011, Mexico won their record sixth CONCACAF Gold Cup title in front of 93,000 fans at the Pasadena Rose Bowl thanks to a nutty 4-2 victory over the USA in which El Tri found themselves two goals behind within the first 20-odd minutes.

The heroic tooth-and-nail victory was capped in style by a decadent finish of the highest order from Tottenham’s forgotten man, Giovani Dos Santos, who signed off his ‘Man of the Match’ performance with the final goal of the game – an impudent 76th-minute lob over the sprawling Tim Howard.

There’s finesse and then there’s this…

That was three-and-a-half years ago? Bloody hell fire!

Anyway, so good was Dos Santos’ dink that it swiftly wound up on the shortlist for the 2011 Puskas Award, eventually coming in a distant runner-up to Neymar’s jinky solo goal against Flamengo.

Well, we know which one we prefer.

Great shout from Pies fan Hugo Loffhagen. Cheers mate!
