Wonder Goals: Scotland U21 Star Chris Maguire Scores Direct From Kick-Off, vs Iceland U21
By Ollie Irish
“Wowee!” is possibly the wettest reaction to a brilliant goal we’ve ever heard. Still, it doesn’t detract from a brilliantly executed goal by the Aberdeen youngster (he’s currently on loan with the Killies UPDATED: No he’s not). Straight from the kick-off, no less – albeit a kick-off straight after Iceland’s U21s had opened the scoring.
Someone was so impressed they even saw fit to change Maguire’s Wiki profile:
However, there was no happy ending for Maguire and Scotland’s U21s, as they lost the Euro 2011 playoff second leg 2-1 (4-2 on agg.), no thanks to two rocket shots by the classy Gylfi Sigurdsson.
It’s not such a terrible result for the Jocks as it looks, as Iceland currently have a fine crop of youngsters. Their U21s were the top scorers in the Euro 2011 qualifying group stages, with 29 goals in only eight games.

He’s not on loan at Killie anymore, he’s back at Pittodrie. The Iceland U-21′s brought full internationalists back to the U-21′s to qualify with a combined caps of around 70. Good effort by the young Scots, they did well against a very good side.
Thanks Bob, my mistake.
