Buddle speculates:

Okay, I didn’t expect Buddle to go and do that. And neither did Seattle’s keeper, clearly.

Seattle Sounders manager Sigi Schmid, frustrated by the Galaxy’s cautious, disruptive approach to the first leg of their MLS Cup playoff, called the winning goal “fortunate”, but of course Buddle disputed that: “When I shoot, it’s a score,” he joked. “The ball bounced up perfectly. I took my chances and it went in.”

My take on MLS is sketchy at best, so if you want a more detailed appreciation of this “ugly” contest, check out ESPN’s excellent report.

Good to see the MLS get a mention without anything openly derisive being said. – Reader in Seattle.

i agree with derek, every league has to start somewhere, its not fair to just call out the mls. EPL had to start from ground zero and so does the mls. give it time

Of course he did. No one questioned whether David Villa’s even more unlikely goal, on the weekend, was intentional. Or for that matter many of his, along with Messi’s, and the most famous score-from-anywhere-off-balance-and-on-the-volley artist of all, Zidane. Buddle’s a great goal scorer and for the losing manager to call this fantastic goal a fluke is a bit churlish. Good on Buddle for taking it all with a sense of humor.

Buddle sucks. Any other striker in the league would have twice as many goals with his supporting cast.

The more I watch it, the better it gets.
