Goal Of The Weekend: Andrew Crofts, Norwich v Barnsley (Video)

By Chris Wright

Those of you with staunch Premier League sensibilities may just have missed Norwich midfielder Andrew Crofts’ a-little-bit-good spinning volley against Barnsley, so here it is again – rendered in glorious technicolour…

Norwich fans the length and breadth of the ‘Mustard Triangle’ have been quick to point out the glaring similarities between Crofts’ effort and the late Justin Fashanu’s volley against Liverpool, a.k.a the BBC’s ‘Goal of the Season’ for the 1979/80 campaign…

Certainly two brilliant exercises in technique and poise, though Fash’s effort just about shades it for me. Perfect trajectory + in off the post = win.

Honorable mentions: Robin van Persie (vs Birmingham), Mario Balotelli (vs Fulham), Matt Jarvis (vs Blackpool), Scott Parker (vs Liverpool).

Any other belters catch your eye this weekend?

Don’t know what all the fuss is about. Goal was alright. Seen hundreds that are better.
Fashanu goal is better than Croft’s strike.
