In a bid to raise a few extra pounds for the transfer kitty by adding a few extra pounds of flab to their fans’ midriffs, Brazilian side Gremio are planning to open their own chain of club-themed fast food restaurants.

Gremio are hoping to flog 90 or so franchises for between $80,000 and $270,000 (approx. £49,000-£165,000) over the next five years in areas in and around Porto Alegre – specifically in neighbourhoods with high numbers of Gremio fans – with the first one due to open in April.

Gremio’s marketing manager, Beto Carvalho, told the club’s website:

“In a country where 37% of spending is on food eaten outside the home, we needed a new product that would help us with the fact we have the most fanatical fans in Brazil.”

The Brazilian first division side also held an online poll for fans to vote for the name of the chain, with “Hamburgueria 1903” winning out- ‘1903’ being the year the club was founded.

Also, the decor will be tastefully done in the club’s famous colours: blue, black and white.
