Diego Maradona has reportedly thrown his leopard skin cowboy hat into the ring and announced himself as a candidate for the FIFA presidency.

The reports come courtesy of Uruguayan journalist and author Victor Hugo Morales, who claims that Maradona told him in conversation that he plans to enter the running to replace Sepp Blatter at the top of the FIFA tree.

The pair apparently got to chatting when Morales called Maradona to check on the condition of his sick father on Sunday.

“He told me he was going to run for president of FIFA and authorised me to inform,” Morales posted (in Spanish) on his Twitter feed.

“‘I am a candidate’ were the words Diego Maradona used to answer me when I consulted him about the nomination for the presidency of FIFA,” he added.

Yes, yes, YES.

What could possibly go wrong, other than absolutely everything.

I’m all up with a former footballer- who knows, played and loves football- running for presidency. But Diego… maybe not. Too much of a loose cannon.

A drug-taking cheat in FIFA’s ranks. In other news, the Pope is catholic.
