Estudiantes have confirmed that Juan Sebastian Veron is currently whipping himself back into shape in order to make his grand return to football at the age of 41.

Veron originally retired in 2014 to become chairman of his boyhood club but it would appear that the former Manchester United and Chelsea man has now had his fill of the boardroom and is keen to return to frontline duty.

Estudiantes midfielder Israel Damonte told La Oral Deportiva:

[Veron] told us he wants to return, that from January he will return as a player.

He will play from January for the championship [league] and Copa [Libertadores] in 2017.

Apparently Veron had promised to come out of retirement and play in the 2017 Copa Libertadores if Estudiantes fans bought 65 percent of the tickets for their new stadium. They did and now he has.

Indeed, the Argentinian side have since posted a video of the veteran midfielder being put through his paces at their Country Club training facility,

As ever, there’s not an ounce of fat on him. Fit as a butcher’s fiddle.

Best of luck, La Brujita!
