Having leaked Sunderland’s starting line-up player-for-player well ahead of their game against Liverpool last week, Black Cats boss Gus Poyet suspected foul play and subsequently saw that The Sun newspaper be banned from attending his press conferences and from the club in general for the rest of the season.

The tabloid have duly retaliated in the only way becoming of such a bastion of journalistic integrity; by actively dropping the word “Sun” from the club’s name in their match reports – merely referring to Poyet’s side as “Derland” in their preview for last night’s game against West Ham.

*Sigh*

Of course, this kind of quibbling is hardly uncharted territory for The Sun, who infamously refused to refer to Southampton as a generic “South Coast Club” for several months after finding their photographers exiled from The Saints’ games and press engagements in 2010.
