Sunderland 3-1 Stoke City – Premier League – 5th October 2014
Steven Fletcher rediscovered his shooting boots at the Stadium of Light on Saturday, with the recalled striker bagging brace against Stoke.
Connor Wickham opened the scoring after just four minutes for the hosts but that goal was soon cancelled out by Charlie Adam, with the Scottish midfielder producing a decent finish on 14 minutes.
However, the Black Cats were by far the better side on the day and goals from Fletcher (one in each half) secured a deserved win for Gus Poyet’s side, who now move into 11th place. Mark Hughes’ Potters, on the other hand, are 15th, albeit whilst having the same number of points as Sunderland (eight).
