Just as he was bought in as a fire-fighter at the arse-end of last season, the wheel has turned and Gus Poyet is to be replaced by a fire-fighter for the arse-end of this.
Talk had been rife since Sunderland went down 4-0 to the only Premier League team to have scored fewer goals than them so far this campaign at the weekend but, as of this afternoon, Poyet has been relieved of his duties at the Stadium of Light.
Relax mate, your banner worked a treat.
After 18 months in charge, Poyet took charge of his final training session this morning with the team in miserable shape (one win since Christmas) and teetering just one point above the relegation zone with nine games left to play.
We’re still waiting on official confirmation from Sunderland themselves, but most news outlets are already reporting the Uruguayan’s departure.
UPDATE: Scratch that, Sunderland have pulled their fingers out…

Bless him, he’s just not that good at managing football teams is he?
According to the Guardian, Dick Advocaat is being primed as Poyet’s immediate replacement.
Now there’s a name we haven’t heard in about a decade.
