Swansea City 1-1 Tottenham Hotspur – Premier League – 31st December 2011
Swansea City battled from a goal down to secure a vital and deserved point against Tottenham at the Liberty Stadium.
Rafael van der Vaart had put the high-flying visitors ahead just before half-time, converting a deflected cross from Benoit Assou-Ekotto. Once again, Gareth Bale was in impressive form as the north Londoners looked to close the gap on the two Mancunian giants at the top of the table, but they struggled to find a cutting edge against a well organised home side.
With the game heading for an away win, Spurs’ ‘keeper Brad Friedel fumbled a low cross from Angel Rangel, leaving the ball to roll in front of Scott Sinclair who slotted home to secure a very important point for Brendan Rodgers’ men.
While Tottenham failed to make the most of the slip ups around them, the Swans garnered a vital point which keeps them five points clear of the drop-zone.
