Queens Park Rangers 1-0 Tottenham Hotspur – Premier League – 21st April 2012

Once touted as genuine title contenders, Spurs will be now be more than happy if they manage to bag a Champions League spot this season.

The Lilywhites’ capitulation continued at Loftus Road in Saturday’s late game, as the home side battled for a vital win which moves them three points clear of the drop-zone.

Goal-hero for QPR was none other than Tottenham old boy Adel Taarabt. The Shisha-smoking schemer struggled to make a name for himself at White Hart Lane, but is finally starting to make the most of his talent.  The Moroccan international outfoxed ‘keeper Brad Friedel with a clever free-kick on 24 minutes,  to register the only goal of a tense London derby.

Harry Redknapp’s out-of-form side pushed for an equaliser and when Taarabt was sent off for a second yellow after the kicking the ball away late on, the visitors sensed a goal. However, Jermain Defoe missed two great opportunities while Gio Dos Santos was denied an equaliser by Paddy Kenny.

Mark Hughes’ stay clear of the bottom three while Spurs are now in fifth, three points behind Newcastle.

Clattenburg was a disgrace, he totally lost it for the last 15-20 mins.

Why are so many refs desperate to send off QPR players at Loftus Road?

  2. Gaz says:

hmm cant really remember too many refs being harsh to QPR players, but im not a QPR fan so dont remember most of your season.
Shaun Derry is the only red i can think of that shouldnt have been (and that was at Old Trafford)

Kicking the ball away is a bookable offence so Taarabt got booked
Cisse’s two reds were deserved – Two footed tackle & a throat grab
I remember Barton getting sent off by the other guy cheating- but he did the exact same to Gervinho earlier in the season

  3. SL says:

Cisse tickled his chin, he never touched the throat.

Cisses tackle and Hills headbutt were reds, the others range from weak to a disgrace.

Bale went into the crowd, no booking, Parker did a disgraceful dive, a 2 min talking to but no booking. Taarabts 1st booking was a dive by Walker. The ref had actually forgotten hed already booked Taarabt and he wouldnt have sent him off if he had known.

The game was reffed differently for each side, I think he realised he made a mistake in awarding the FK for the goal and gave Spurs everything he could after that.
