Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 Southampton – Premier League – 4th May 2013

Coming just days after winning the Football Writers’ Player Of The Year awar, Welsh wizard Gareth Bale conjured up yet another superb long-range strike to secure a vital three points against Southampton.

The Saints had been the better side for long periods of the game, with Rickie Lambert going close on more than one occasion. However, with the just four minutes left on the clock, Bale cut in from the flank and fired home a magnificent effort which beat Artur Boruc in the Saints goal, and that was that.

The result sees the Lilywhites in fifth place, two points behind third-place Arsenal, but with a game in hand. Southampton, on the other hand, are now just four points clear of danger. Surely the south coasters won’t get sucked in to the drop-zone now?
