Tottenham Hotspur 1-5 Manchester City – Premier League – 29th January 2014
Manchester City moved one point clear of Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table after yet another goalfest against Spurs. Having thrashed the Lilywhites 6-0 at the Etihad earlier in the season, they won this latest meeting 5-1, although Tottenham will feel somewhat aggrieved at some of the decisions by the officials. With City 1-0 up, courtesy of a Sergio Aguero strike, Michael Dawson netted from close-range only to be wrongly adjudged to have been offside.
After the break, Danny Rose saw red for tripping Edin Dzeko in the box, with Yaya Touré converting the resulting spot-kick and from that point on, the game was pretty much over. Dzeko then made it 3-1 before Etienne Capoue got one back for the hosts before forgotten man Stevan Jovetic and then Vincent Kompany rounded off the win. Indeed, the only negative for Manuel Pellegrini’s side was the injury to Aguero which saw him leave the game early on.
City go top while Tottenham stay fifth.
