Sergio Aguero’s 22nd league goal of the season all but secured a top four place in the Premier League for Manchester City on Sunday.

Tottenham, still with faint hopes of a top four finish themselves, started brightly, with Eric Dier heading wide from a corner.

Harry Kane also failed to make the most of a fine opportunity as City’s defence looked decidedly weak.

However, just before the half-hour mark, the visitors took the lead, courtesy of a superb shot after good play from David Silva.

Ryan Mason then saw his goal-bound effort blocked by Joe Hart as the Lilywhites pushed for an equaliser.

Aguero almost bagged his second of the day, only to fire wide after rounding Hugo Lloris.

Despite late pressure from the hosts, City held on to go three points clear of third-placed Arsenal, albeit having played two games more. As for Mauricio Pochettino’s side, they are now seven points off a top four place, with just three games to play.
