Photos: Tottenham 2-1 Arsenal – Stand Up, Danny Rose
By Ollie Irish
Regardless of the result, let’s stand up and applaud a brilliant match. This was the Prem at its absolute best – two teams with the gloves off, punching and counter-punching for 90 minutes. Captivating.
As a Spurs fan, the result has put a massive smile on my face. It’s our first league win against the Arse at the Lane in a decade, and boy does it feel good, even though Arsenal were undoubtedly below-par and missing several key players; I can’t wait for the inevitable commemorative DVD, and this time it’ll be twice as long.
Debutant Danny Rose put the match on the good foot, with a very special volley (watch it here), before the excellent Gareth Bale (he is improving at a scary rate, isn’t he) doubles Tottenham’s lead from close range, after a superb pass by Jermain Defoe.
Then Robin van Persie came off the bench and caused absolute havoc in the Spurs defence. He was a cut above his Arsenal team-mates and didn’t deserve to be on the losing side – he wouldn’t have been either, but for the amazing reflexes of Heurelho Gomes, who on current form is probably the best pure shot-stopper in the world. Gomes pulled off a hat-trick of world-class saves to keep Spurs in the lead.
Arsene Wenger has since admitted that Arsenal’s title challenge is over – no silverware for yet another season. For Spurs, fourth place is ON like Donkey Kong.

Many a time we have had to try to use the excuse of having key players out,and though it may be a fact that without some top quality players they could not match us.I must add that their squad players are top quality, and the mere truth of them needing those players that are injured to beat Tottenham is surely a sign of how far Spurs have come under Harry.
