Tottenham produced a superb, mature performance at the Bernabeu on Tuesday, holding holders Real Madrid to a 1-1 draw in their Champions League Group H game.

Spurs started with Fernando Llorente partnering Kane in attack and the Spaniard almost won his side a penalty early on after a challenge from Casemiro in the box.

However, referee Szymon Marciniak remained unconvinced.

The visitors did eventually draw first blood, with Raphael Varane diverting in Serge Aurier’s centre whilst under pressure from Harry Kane.

Madrid would level the scores before the break, with Cristiano Ronaldo converting a spot-kick after a rash challenge from Aurier had felled Toni Kroos in the box.

Zinedine Zidane’s side would push for a winner after the break, with Hugo Lloris saving superbly from Ronaldo.

Lloris also produced an outstanding stop from Karim Benzema.

At the other end, Kane, linked with a move to the Bernabeu, had a great chance to win the game, only for Keylor Navas to thwart the England man with a fantastic finger-tip save.

The game would end all-square, a fine result for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

The Lilywhites go top of the group, ahead of Madrid on goal difference, and looking well-placed to progress to the knockout stages.
