While it looked like there were more than a few empty seats, we’re reliably informed that Saturday’s derby between Tottenham and Arsenal set a new Premier League attendance record.

Harry Kane scored the only goal of the game at Wembley as Spurs emerged victorious over their beloved next-door neighbours.

The official attendance logged was 83,222, which exceeds the previous record of 81,978 set during Spurs’ home win over Manchester United on 31st January.

Indeed, the North London derby attendance was apparently just 38 people shy of setting a new all-time overall English league record, with 83,260 cramming into Maine Road to watch a game between Manchester United (not City) and Arsenal in January of 1948.

I was only 8 years old when I went to Maine Road with my Uncle Tommy. Tommy was a WW2 veteran and avid United fan. He would wake up most mornings and drink two glasses of whisky and smoke his pipe. He did that right up until his death in 1976, a mammoth of a man I will never forget the advice he gave me.

Never listen to the doubters, nor the pouters or the flouters. Those will end up doing you NOWT. hahahah

He was a top bloke, he really was. I miss him but I’m getting on a bit now so the sentimental side of things is a bit skewiff if you know what i mean. Add me on FACEBOOK if you want to know more.

    Best wishes

Mad how this is 6,500 fewer people than the 89,845 that attended a preseason friendly between Barcelona and Liverpool.

  3. King Paul says:

The match was a sell out. The capacity is limited by the police, primarily for public transport concerns
