Tottenham inflicted a first league defeat of the season on Chelsea at Wembley on Saturday, with the Lilywhites blowing away their London rivals in a thrilling display.

Spurs were superb from the first whistle and found themselves 2-0 within 16 minutes.

Dele Alli, who impressed throughout, scored a deft header from a Christian Eriksen centre to open the scoring.

Soon after, the Lilywhites doubled their advantage, with Harry Kane’s fierce drive wrong-footing  Kepa Arrizabalaga in the Chelsea goal.

The Blues were struggling to deal with Tottenham’s vibrant pressing performance, with Eden Hazard struggling to make his mark on the game.

After the break, Son Heung-Min would score the goal of the game, his 50th for Spurs in all competitions, after latching on to a pass from Alli.

The Korean raced towards the Chelsea goal, leaving Jorginho in his wake, before sidestepping David Luiz and firing past Kepa.

That fine solo goal topped off a fabulous display from Spurs, although the Chelsea defending, both for that goal and throughout the game, was quite feeble.

Sub Olivier Giroud did manage to head home a consolation goal for the visitors on 85 minutes.

However, Mauricio Pochettino’s side were well worth their 3-1 win, a result which sees them go third ahead of Chelsea.

I said before that we were coasting along this season, not really troubling opponents much. Well! Here we are, giving hope to a team which should really be happy floating around 5th or 6th in the table, given their focus is on creating the longest construction project in history. One can only hope that Kepa the keepa gets seasoned by the passing of a season of exposure to the teams giving him a better idea of where he needs to improve. That the defenders need to pick it up goes without saying. Hard to watch!

Now the most Tottenham thing to do would be to get beaten by a second division side next week, right? Tottenham are the new Arsenal… nice football, nice players, nice manager, nice stadium, women and children on the stands and… no fucking titles!
