Tottenham suffered their second cup defeat in four days after the Lilywhites were beaten 2-0 by Crystal Palace in the FA Cup fourth round at Selhurst Park.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side were dumped out of the Carabao Cup at the semi-final stage on Thursday, courtesy of a penalty shoot-out defeat to Chelsea, and were looking to get back to winning ways on Sunday.
However, a Spurs team still shorn of Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Son Heung-min struggled in the first-half against an energised Palace side.
The hosts took the lead after just nine minutes, with Connor Wickham, in his first start since November 2016, firing home after good work from Jeffrey Schlupp.
Not surprisingly, the striker was rather pleased by his long-awaited goal.
On 34 minutes, the Eagles found themselves 2-0 up when ex-Tottenham winger Andros Townsend converted a penalty after Kyle Walker-Peters had handled in the box.
Just before the break, Spurs had a golden opportunity to get one back when Patrick van Aanholt fouled Juan Foyth in the box.
However, Kieran Trippier fired the resulting spot-kick wide of the goal.
The visitors improved after the break, only for French winger Georges-Kevin N’Koudou to fluff his line with only Julian Speroni to beat.
Fernando Llorente was also denied by Speroni as Tottenham pushed for a goal.
The game would ultimately end in a deserved 2-0 win for Roy Hodgson’s Palace, who march on to the fifth round of the competition.
As for Tottenham, their hopes of finally ending their trophy drought are looking rather slim once again, with only the Premier League and Champions League to play for.
