The New Season: What the Bloggers Say – Tottenham Hotspurs

Spurs%20Badge.jpgWe’ve heard from quite a few bloggers about the imminent Premier League season, and now, we get to see what a Spurs fan thinks and how they will fare. Will they push for 4th? Well, it would annoy the Gooners eh? What’s more, this Spurs fan is the main boy at Shiny’s new Tottenham blog, SpursPies!
Alright fella? Introduce yourself…
Jonathan Weinberg, Tottenham Hotspur, www.spurspies.tv
What does the new season have in store for you?
We’ve finished 5th for the last two seasons, something we’ve not achieved in about 25 years. If we can improve our away form and stop throwing away the lead at home, there’s no reason why we can’t match that again, or dare I say it, sneak into 4th place ahead of Arsenal or Liverpool.

What do you think of your transfer activity this summer?
Martin Jol has certainly raided the bank this summer, splashing out monster cash on the likes of Darren Bent and Gareth Bale. Both are top signings with Bent adding some pace and strength to our attack and Bale solving our age-old problem on the left side of defence.
The jury is out on midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng but he could be one for the future and I think centre-half Younes Kaboul will come good and be a decent deputy for Ledley King, while he is out injured. After all, he must be better than Ricardo Rocha and Anthony Gardener, surely!

Who do you think will make the biggest mark in the squad?
There’s no doubt holding onto Dimitar Berbatov is like signing a brand-new player again and I expect him to hit the back of the net at least every other game. He scored 23 goals last season and will surely top that in this campaign.

Who owes you a decent season?

I love Paul Robinson but he does need to improve slightly. He can pull magic saves out of nowhere one minute but then make a dreadful howler or be caught out of position. Our defence as a whole owes us a favour, we keep few clean sheets these days and that’s the only way we are going to mount a genuine Champions League place challenge not to mention win a cup.

Which youngster should we all watch out for next season?

Adel Taarabt is looking tasty. Pacy, skilful and with an eye for goal, he could be the new David Ginola. He just needs to stop showboating so much like he did against Leyton Orient. He won’t get away with it against the big boys and is certainly not the finished article, just yet.

Who are we going to find in the top 4?
Man United, Chelsea, Liverpool, Spurs (of course)
Who is going down?
Fulham, Derby, Bolton
Finally, make a random prediction about next season.
I’ll make two if I may, Chelsea will end the season with nothing and England will win Euro 2008. Well, as a Spurs fan, you have to be optimistic!
